Dorothy Merritt, MD

MEDICAL DIRECTOR

I’m Dr. Dorothy Merritt, and I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients in Galveston County since 1987. I’m board-certified in Internal Medicine and completed my residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Over the years, my practice has evolved to reflect a more integrative approach — blending traditional adult medicine with environmental health, genetics, chelation therapy, nutritional support, and bioidentical hormone replacement.

I believe in looking beyond surface symptoms to understand the root causes of illness, and I’ve always prioritized listening closely to my patients. That approach has guided my clinical work, as well as my involvement in public health initiatives, where I’ve served on a number of boards, committees, and educational panels throughout my career.

I’ve also spent many years as a clinical preceptor for PA students — one of my most rewarding roles. In fact, I first met Sarah Johnson when she was working as a medical assistant at my clinic while preparing for PA school. It’s been a joy to see her grow into a thoughtful, capable provider and to now work alongside her as Medical Director at Elevated Primary Care.

Though I’ve transitioned to part-time work to spend more time with family and focus on mentorship, I remain deeply committed to supporting Elevated’s mission: delivering care that is patient-centered, integrative, and rooted in both science and compassion.
